Tracking your cycle can feel like a full-time job—especially when you’re juggling breastfeeding, night feeds, or shift work. As someone who has charted my own cycles since 2019, I’ve learned that accurate temperature readings are key to understanding ovulation and fertility, and if you're looking for a Tempdrop dicsount, I have one of those too!

Traditional BBT is Still the Gold Standard

Basal body temperature (BBT) taken with a thermometer first thing in the morning is the gold standard and why I still temp with a traditional thermometer alongside my Tempdrop. All fertility awareness methods and studies have been validated using this approach. If you can take your temperature consistently every morning or you’re not as sensitive to disturbances, this is still the most reliable way to chart your cycle.

It's also worth noting that using a wearble would not be considered 'perfect use' of a method, since they wasn't studied this way.

That said, life isn’t always predictable. For many women, night feeds, early mornings, or travel can make consistent temping a little trickier. Traditional BBT still works beautifully for lots of women, but for those who want a bit more flexibility, Tempdrop can be a really helpful alternative.

Why Tempdrop is a Game-Changer

Tempdrop is a wearable that measures your temperature while you sleep. Simply turn it on, pop it on your arm when you’re ready for bed, and take it off once you’re up for the day. You don’t need to remove it, or do anything, if you’re awake during the night. Tempdrop automatically filters out those disturbances and still provides a temperature result.

This means no stressing about taking your temp at the exact same time every morning, or missing readings due to restless nights.

For women who struggle with traditional BBT, shift workers, nursing mums, or anyone with irregular sleep, Tempdrop is the only wearable I’d confidently recommend. It’s specifically designed for fertility tracking to account for sleep interruptions and provide accurate, usable data for charting, unlike many watches or rings that can give unstable results.

My Experience During Breastfeeding

Personally, Tempdrop has been a lifesaver while breastfeeding. I first started using it back in 2019 with my first daughter, when I was struggling to get reliable results with a traditional thermometer. Since then, I’ve used it with baby number two, and now again with baby number three, it’s been with me through all stages of early motherhood.

In those early months, waking up multiple times a night made oral temping more challenging. With Tempdrop, I was finally able to get consistent, reliable data without the stress. I’d wake up, open the app, and have results in around a minute, ready to chart. It made understanding my cycles so much easier, especially when sleep was unpredictable.

That said, once I’d learned Sensiplan and gained more experience, I found I could also get usable temps with a traditional thermometer while breastfeeding, by temping after my first wake-up of the night. When you’re breastfeeding, those wake-ups become your new normal, and your body adjusts. So for many women, that approach can still work well.

But for anyone wanting extra flexibility, or who’s travelling, working shifts (like I used to in 2019/2020), or just finding traditional BBT overwhelming, Tempdrop is an amazing option. It’s taken so much of the stress out of charting for me, and I’ve had great success with it across three babies now.

Using Tempdrop for Your Cycle

Tempdrop doesn’t replace the method, it simply makes getting consistent temperature readings easier. Combine your Tempdrop data with cervical mucus and/or cervix observations as part of your fertility awareness method to get the full picture of your fertility.

Accurate charting isn’t just about avoiding pregnancy or trying to conceive, it’s about knowing your body and understanding your hormones.

If you choose to invest in a Tempdrop, I recommend temping orally or vaginally alongside it for around three cycles (if you’re able to). This helps confirm that the Tempdrop patterns line up well for you. Don’t expect the readings to be identical, Tempdrop and oral thermometers measure in different ways, at different times, with different tools. What matters is whether the patterns line up.
